This award is presented annually to one organization in the United States, and Well-Spring is one of only three North Carolina Continuing Care Retirement Communities to ever receive this award. Nancy Rehkamp, Clifton Larson Allen principal, said, “Well-Spring was a clear standout as a high quality, innovative organization from which other senior services organizations could learn a great deal.” Well-Spring’s Pathways to Greatness was derived from high employee and resident satisfaction scores, prudent financial management, a unique Growing Green initiative, its commitment to ensuring a diverse resident population and a high level of community involvement and commitment.
CARF-CCAC Accreditation
Originally accredited in 2003, Well-Spring, A Life Plan Community was awarded a five-year term of accreditation by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CCAC) and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in 2013. An organization receiving a five-year term of accreditation has voluntarily engaged in a rigorous peer review process and demonstrated to a team of surveyors that it is committed to conforming to CARF–CCAC’s accreditation conditions and standards, as well as being commended on its quest for quality programs and services.
NC New Organizational Vision Award
Well-Spring is the only life plan community in the Triad to have both accreditation from the CARF-CCAC and the special licensure of the North Carolina New Organizational Vision Award (NC NOVA). In addition, in 2006 Well-Spring was the first facility to be awarded NC NOVA. The NC NOVA is a special licensure designation awarded to nursing homes, adult care homes and home care agencies that meet voluntary higher standards for workplace culture. The program was created to aid long-term care facilities in improving the quality of care by attracting and retaining a qualified, well-trained and satisfied team of caregivers.

Well-Spring – UNCG School of Nursing Health Centers
Well-Spring partnered with the UNCG School of Nursing Health Centers in 2008 and provided primary funding for the enhanced Health Centers, which offer on-site health screening, assessment and wellness promotion to low-income residents of Greensboro Housing Authority’s public housing complexes for older adults. The Health Centers are staffed by UNCG School of Nursing professors, students and allied professionals. The Well-Spring – UNCG School of Nursing Health Centers combine education and public service for Greensboro’s vulnerable older adults and extend services available from the UNCG School of Nursing. The mission of the weekly Health Center sites is to prepare nursing students to care for older adults and vulnerable populations, improve life expectancy outcomes and quality of life, and eliminate health disparity where possible. This will be carried forth by engaging residents in the promotion and education of good health practices and management of chronic illness by facilitating resident access to needed services and by encouraging the appropriate use of the healthcare system.
Appalachian State University
To promote interest and provide educational opportunities to individuals in the healthcare field, Well-Spring established the Well-Spring Retirement Community Scholarship in Healthcare Management at the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. North Carolina A&T State University, UNCG & Guilford Technical Community College
Well-Spring, A Life Plan Community established four endowed scholarship funds in nursing at North Carolina A&T State University, UNCG and Guilford Technical Community College. These funds afford the schools the opportunity to attract and retain capable, deserving students pursuing a degree in nursing. As a provider of healthcare services, Well-Spring recognizes the critical shortages facing the healthcare industry and believes that our financial support in this area of study benefits not only the individual students and the schools but our community and its rapidly growing senior population.
NC State Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (NCBENHA)
The primary purpose of the NCBENHA is to license nursing home administrators; it is also responsible for developing, imposing and enforcing standards that must be met by individuals in order to be a licensed nursing home administrator. Former Governor Mike Easley appointed Steve Fleming, president and CEO of The Well•Spring Group, to NCBENHA. He was subsequently elected Chair of the Board to serve and represent over 40,000 nursing home residents, their administrators and the facilities in where they reside. In addition, two Well-Spring senior staff members donate time and expertise to serve as preceptors and present educational sessions as they train aspiring nursing home administrators.
